Divine Justice: Gods, Generals, and the Crisis of the Greco-Persian War
Starting as early as 499 B.C. the last 50 years have been gory for the Persians and Greeks armies. The people are tired and resources are sparse. The Greco-Persian War created war criminal generals and famines, all powered by the support of the Gods. With the war generals now dead, the citizens of both civilizations are working to rebuild their lives. All of them look to the Gods for help and justice. How will the Gods punish the generals who caused the deaths of thousands of innocents and soldiers?
At first glance, this is just a trial of two war generals. With each pantheon being angry at the opposing official and having empathy for their own. However, if these trials are not handled correctly, another war is on the brink. The governments are in chaos with no one to lead, citizens are angry, and cities are on the verge of collapsing. Delegates will be serving as the great Gods of both pantheons, each with their motives and desires for the future of their citizens. They will be tasked with the trials of both Cyrus the Great and Themistocles, along with the decisions that come with aiding their civilians.
About the Crisis Director: Hello! My name is Paige Kempf, and I am the crisis director for the Greco-Persian War committee. I am a current second year at Ohio State majoring in Political Science, on a pre-law track. As well, I have two minors in History and Classics. I have been competing on the Model UN team since the spring of my freshman year.
Greek mythology has been an influence on my life since I was young. Indulging in the stories and retellings gave life to my love of ancient worlds and their lives. As I got older learning about varying cultures and their traditions interested me more about the ancient world. As I studied for Classics my interest in mythology blossomed, mainly the influence the Gods had on political decisions. The Greco-Persian war was the meeting between clashing religious pantheons, creating several famous generals and records. Both mythologies have their own great Gods and their stories. Regardless of background, almost everyone can find a god that they connect with. Whether it’s Athena or Ardvi Sura Anahita, the Gods are made to influence the world. Let the duel of Gods begin.
