International Summit on the Teaching Profession
The International Summit on the Teaching Profession (ISTP) is an annual event co-hosted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the education ministry of the host country. Though the 2024 host country has yet to be announced, it was hosted in the United States last year. Every participant will be assigned a leader from a country. The summit brings together education ministers, union leaders, and other stakeholders from around the world to discuss key challenges and opportunities in education and teaching. Participants will be expected to research and represent their assigned countries educational goals, policy, and values. The discussions at the summit typically focus on topics such as teacher quality, professional development, school leadership, and the overall improvement of education systems. Though we will be heavily discussing the impacts of Artificial Intelligence and other technologies in student outcomes and education systems. The goal of this committee is to foster international collaboration and dialogue on best practices in teaching and education policy. As said by the U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona “The International Summit on the Teaching Profession is about driving the intentional collaboration students around the world need to fulfill the full promise of education to open doors to better lives and livelihoods. Whether it’s building and supporting the next generation of incredible educators, preparing young people to engage globally in an increasingly interconnected world, or seizing the opportunities and managing the risks of digital transformation, our students are counting on governments and organizations alike to come together and invest in their future. Together, we can and we will raise the bar in education.
About the Chair:
My name is Anne Traver and I am currently a second year at tOSU. I am double majoring in World Politics, with a focus in political economies and development, and Communications Analysis and Engagement, with a focus on communications for advocacy, politics, and citizenship. A little bit more about me in my spare time I love doing yoga, playing with my dog and reading. I grew up in a household where learning was a constant, my mom, a social studies teacher, and my dad, a dedicated fireman, instilled in me a deep appreciation for education and community service. So I have fond memories of being in my mom's classroom after school, attending professional development meetings, and witnessing the impact of dedicated educators have fueled my commitment to creating positive learning outcomes globally. This year, I'm excited to take on the role of chairing the International Summit on the Teaching Profession at OSUMUN. It's a unique opportunity to merge my academic pursuits with a practical commitment to enhancing education on a global scale. I look forward to meeting all of you this spring.
